Browser Hijacked? Here Is How To Fix It
When your homepage keeps changing, search results redirect to weird sites, or popups appear constantly, you have a browser hijacker. Removable but tricky.
Try These First
Browser hijackers usually come bundled with free software downloads. Removing them often requires more than just changing settings — they reinstall themselves.
- Reset the browser to default settings (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari)
- Check installed extensions — remove anything unfamiliar
- Check Programs and Features — uninstall recently-added unknown software
- Run Malwarebytes (free version) to scan for adware
- Check Windows Task Scheduler for suspicious tasks
- Restart and verify the hijacker is gone
- If it returns — bring it in for a full malware cleanup
